Ghost kitchen fires up burger concept

-

Chef Jeff White opened J’Dubs Burgers & Grub Wednesday. The chef, who formerly helmed Boiler House, Tucker’s Kozy Korner and Eastside Kitchenette says the menu will keep it simple — for now.

“I’ve had this idea in my head the last three years, but have been busy with the ice cream shop, Tucker’s, the Kitchenette, so I never had the time,” White said.

After the pandemic hit, White said he was laid off three different times over the past year before realizing there was no time like the present. “I had to take advantage of this time and I’m excited to get this concept out in the world,” White said.

White found just the right spot within the walls of the former Five Points Local, which also houses Motel Fried Chicken, another ghost kitchen concept to hit the area in the last six months led by chef Chad Rosenthal. And he also found a right-hand man with Luis Colón, who holds bragging rights for creating Texas Monthly’s “Best Burger in Texas” in 2016 at the now-closed Folc Burger.

The menu for J’Dubs will include smash patty burgers available to order as singles and doubles, with cheese and the usual accoutrements. Also on deck will be a battered cod fish sandwich and a chicken fried steak sandwich. Seasoned fries and potato salad will round out the side offerings. Leave room for dessert made up of handspun milkshakes and cookies by White’s wife Jenn.

Burgers will be priced at $10, with combos starting at $12. Lone Star beer will be the featured beer add-on for combos.
