Ole Miss thwarts Arkansas in final seconds

OXFORD, Miss. — Sam Williams and Tavius Robinson pressured Arkansas quarterbac­k KJ Jefferson on a potential gamewinnin­g 2-point conversion and No. 17 Mississipp­i held on for a wild 52-51 victory Saturday against the 13th-ranked Razorbacks after allowing a touchdown on the final play of regulation.

Arkansas (4-2, 1-2 SEC) scored on a 9-yard pass from Jefferson to Warren Thompson as time expired to pull within a point and decided to go for the win.

Jefferson rolled right and under extended pressure from Williams and Robinson, overthrew Treylon Burks in the end zone.

Ole Miss (4-1, 1-1) took the lead with 1:07 remaining as Matt Corral threw a 68-yard touchdown pass to Braylon Sanders, accompanie­d by a soaring clipboard flip by a trailing coach Lane Kiffin, racing down the home sideline. Corral finished 14-of-21 passing for 287 yards and two touchdowns.

Arkansas answered with a 9-play, 75-yard touchdown drive to set up the decisive 2-point play.

C.J. Stroud threw five touchdowns passes as the host Buckeyes (5-1, 3-0 Big Ten) scored on nine straight possession­s.

Taulia Tagovailoa was 28 for 39 for 279 yards and two touchdowns for the Terrapins (4-2, 1-2) but threw two late picks.

In Provo, Utah, Hank Bachmeier threw for 172 yards and the visiting Broncos (3-3) forced four turnovers to knock the Cougars (5-1) from the ranks of

the unbeaten.

Jalen Nailor caught touchdown passes of 63, 63 and 65 yards from Payton Thorne as the

visiting Spartans (6-0, 3-0 Big Ten) used their big-play offense to remain unbeaten.

Kenneth Walker, who came into the game leading all Football Bowl Subdivisio­n players in rushing, ran for 233 yards, including a school-record 94-yard touchdown. It was the longest offensive play in Michigan State history.

In Syracuse, N.Y., Sam Hartman threw a 22-yard touchdown pass in overtime as the Demon Deacons (6-0, 3-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) remain perfect.

It was the fifth time in FBS history a team has had a 300yard passer, a 200-yard rusher and a 200-yard receiver in the same game.

Friday in Cincinnati, Desmond Ridder threw for 259 yards and three touchdowns and the Bearcats (5-0, 1-0 American) extended their home winning streak to 23 games, the second-longest in the nation.

Friday in Tempe, Ariz., Deandre Pierce scored a 27-yard touchdown on a lateral off an intercepti­on and the Sun Devils (5-1, 3-0 Pac-12) rode their explosive run game past the Cardinal (3-3, 2-2).
