Adding to San Antonio’s growing French restaurant scene, Tardif ’s American Brasserie is scheduled to open Oct. 20 near the Dominion on the North Side.

Chef and owner Jean Tardif, who was born in Mexico with French heritage, graduated from Le Cordon Bleu culinary school in Paris, and has owned and cooked at several restaurants in Mexico City before his recent move to San Antonio.

A working draft of his menu lays out eight appetizers, six salads, three soups, 10 entrees and six desserts. That list includes French standards such as steak tartare, foie gras, salade Lyonnaise, onion soup, duck magret, pear tarte tatin and scallops with beurre noisette.

The menu also includes fresh oysters, broiled mussels, Black Angus rib-eye steak, a 12-ounce pork chop and a barbecue-brie cheeseburger. The bar program includes numerous French and Texas wines, along with beer and craft cocktails.

The restaurant, occupying a villa-style corner space in the Dominion Creek shopping center on the Interstate 10 frontage road, features a wide-open dining room with soaring ceilings, wood floors, a chef ’s table, gray accents, half-walls to create intimate seating groups and a bar that opens to a skylight hung with vines and modern spindle chandeliers.
