Outlook: Judson looks to extend its streak of five straight state semifinal appearance­s under new coach Christina Camacho, who moves from San Antonio Veterans Memorial. Camacho, who reached the 700-career-win plateau last year, inherits a talented team led by senior forward and Tulane-bound Amira Mabry, a two-time Express-News Super Team member. Steele, Wagner and Clemens will challenge the Rockets for the district crown.

The best race will be in District 28-6A, where Reagan, Johnson, Clark and Brandeis are the top contenders.

Reagan returns junior guard Samantha Wagner, the area’s top college prospect, who averaged 22 points and 10 rebounds. Her presence will help overcome the loss of senior forward/center Christeen Iwuala, a two-time Express-News Super Team member, who withdrew from Reagan 1½ weeks ago.

Johnson is expected to return most of its players from a team that finished third in district.

Clark returns Super Teamer Aaliyah Roberson and two-sport (soccer) star Hailey Adams, who is committed to Rice. The Cougars finished second to Reagan last year and have talented youngsters, including sophomore guard Natalie Huff, who had a teambest 16 points in Clark’s narrow 48-45 loss to Judson in last year’s third round.

Brandeis returns Express-News Newcomer of the Year Rian Forestier, a sophomore guard, and leading scorer Alexis Parker.

Reigning District 29-6A champion Stevens returns four starters led by guard Annalia Cuellar and Davi’Yanna Jones, both first-team all-district picks last year. Harlan, Warren and Taft will push the
