Texas Tech tames W. Virginia to stay perfect at home

LUBBOCK — Terrence Shannon scored a seasonhigh 23 points with a goahead three-point play as No. 18 Texas Tech remained undefeated in 12 games at home with a 78-65 victory over West Virginia on Saturday.

Kevin Obanor added 18 points and Bryson Williams had 13 for Texas Tech (15-4, 5-2). Taz Sherman led West Virginia with 21 points.

After West Virginia took its only lead in the second half on a 3-pointer by Sherman with 6:21 left, Shannon’s three-point play on the ensuing possession put the Red Raiders up 56-54. That layup when being fouled was part of Shannon making his last four field goal attempts, including back-to-back 3-pointers that extended the margin to 65-56.

It was the 1,300th college game coached by Bob Huggins, who is in his 40th season overall. He is 323-176 with the Mountainee­rs (13-5, 2-4 Big 12), who have lost three consecutiv­e games — all to Top 25 opponents.

Walker Kessler scored 19 points and K.D. Johnson added 17, helping the Tigers defeat the Wildcats at Auburn,

Ala.

The Tigers (18-1, 7-0 Southeaste­rn Conference) rallied from a 10-point deficit to win their 15th straight game in what was likely the biggest home game since Auburn Arena opened for the 2010 season.

Oscar Tshiebwe had 16 points, 14 rebounds and four blocked shots for Kentucky (15-4, 5-2).

Ochai Agbaji hit a baseline jumper with 9 seconds

left to lift the visiting Jayhawks over the Wildcats.

Agbaji’s shot gave Kansas its first lead since early in the first half and snapped KState’s two-game winning streak against ranked foes. Agbaji scored 29 points.

Jalen Wilson added 16 points for Kansas (16-2, 5-1 Big 12). Kansas State (10-8, 2-5) wasted a career-high 35 points by Nijel Pack.

TCU 59, NO. 15 IOWA ST. 44

Damion Baugh scored 23 points to help the Horned Frogs surprised the Cyclones at Ames, Iowa.

Baugh hit 11 of 17 shots, while TCU (13-3, 3-2 Big 12) held the Cyclones to their lowest point total in the 50year history of Hilton Coliseum.

Iowa State (14-5, 2-5) shot just 31 percent. Izaiah Brockingto­n led the Cyclones with 19 points and 12 rebounds.

AJ Griffin hit five 3-pointers — the most by a Duke player this season — as the Blue Devils bolted to an early lead and never trailed at Durham, N.C.

Griffin was one of four players for Duke (15-3, 5-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) with 15 points, joining Paolo Banchero, Wendell Moore Jr. and Mark Williams.

Collin Gillespie scored 28 points and Justin Moore added 19 as the visiting Wildcatsbe­at the Hoyas for the 17th time in 20 meetings.

Gillespie connected on 6 of 9 3-pointers, including four in the second half for the Wildcats (14-5, 7-2 Big East).

Isiaih Mosley scored 40 points and the Bears won at Chicago to end the Ramblers’ 10-game winning streak.

Donovan Clay added 16 points and Gaige Prim 11 for the Bears (15-6, 6-2 Missouri Valley Conference).

Braden Morris had 16 points and Lucas Williamson 11 for Loyola Chicago (14-3, 5-1), which had won 30 straight home games.

Tishara Morehouse scored 20 points, Kerstie Phills added 17 plus nine rebounds and the visiting Eagles cruised in a meeting of unbeaten Atlantic Sun Conference division leaders

Emma List added 14 points for the Eagles (17-1, 6-0). Kennedy Gavin scored 10 points to lead the Gamecocks (14-4, 5-1) who had an eight-game win streak end.

Shaylee Gonzales scored a season-high 29 points and the visiting Cougars won their seventh straight game.
