New pet-friendly bar also for music, sports lovers
For years, Nick Marquez has been turning old houses into bars and restaurants in the Schertz-Cibolo area. But for his newest endeavor, a pet-friendly bar called The Hidden Grove, he’s doing it from the ground up.
It’s still under construction, but Marquez said he hopes to have Hidden Grove open in late June — July 4 at the latest.
Located on Main Street in Schertz, next to The Purple Pig BBQ and about a 100-foot walk to Bar House, which Marquez opened in 2018, The Hidden Grove will be a mix of concepts. It will be a live music venue, part sports bar and part backyard hangout.
Most of the seating will be outside on the half-acre lot, which has an outdoor stage for music and seating areas scattered about under metal roofs and a canopy of shade trees that inspired the bar’s name. When it gets too steamy, patrons can sit indoors in air-conditioned comfort.
“The goal is to provide a very relaxed environment where people can grab a drink and enjoy each others’ company, but we’ll also have live entertainment, plenty of TVs, and we’ll show the UFC fights,” Marquez said. “This is my first project built from the frame up, so it allowed a lot of flexibility for the construction of it. It’s going to be neat.”
The bar will be outfitted with a large tap wall and will have a special cocktail menu, which is still in development, to go with all the standard spirits. Marquez hopes customers will bring their fourlegged family members for a drink and a bit of food from the food trucks that will be on-site on weekends or from The Purple Pig BBQ next door.
“Hopefully the people of
San Antonio will make the trip up to Schertz, because we have a lot to offer here that many people don’t know,” said Marquez, who also owns the Old Main Ice House in Cibolo, about 3 miles away.
