1. Classical music
The Cactus Pear Music Festival is kicking off its final season under the direction of founder Stephanie Sant’Ambrogio, who is handing over the reins to pianist Ryo Yanagitani. Three programs on three consecutive days will be played for the opening week: “In C,” with works by Mozart and Brahms; “French Whispers,” with music by modern French composers; and “Swan Song,” featuring “Swang Song for Stephanie,” a piece for violin and piano written by Kathryn Mishell in honor of Sant’Ambrogio’s retirement.

2. Independence Day
The H-E-B Fourth of July Celebration marks the holiday with family-friendly activities and live performances from the U.S. Air Force Band of the West and DJ Plata. The celebration includes food trucks, food vendors and carnival games, and will conclude with a patriotic fireworks bonanza.

3. Movies
This year’s CineFestival, the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center’s long-running Latino film festival, will feature 85 films, including 22 made in San Antonio. Highlights include the documentary “Mija,” about the daughters of immigrants, which screened at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, and the feature “Jockey” starring
Clifton Collins Jr., who was nominated for an

4. Stage
The 50th anniversary tour of “Jesus Christ Superstar,” which has gotten back on the road after being interrupted by the pandemic, will start a six-day stand at the Majestic Theatre on Tuesday. It is based on the pared-down 2016

5. Museum
As part of its terrific exhibit “Great Stage of Texas,” the McNay Art Museum is presenting a talk by playwright Katie Bender. Bender will discuss how she developed “Survivors/Los Sobrevivientes,” a play about Alamo survivors. The talk will include a performance by actors from The Public Theater of San Antonio and a Q&A.
