JEANETTE M. KOGER

July 22, 1935 - June 23, 2022

Jeanette M. Koger, nee Knopp, beloved mother and grandmother, peacefully passed away on June 23, 2022, a day when this world became a little less colorful. She was born on July 22, 1935, in Fredericksburg, Texas, the daughter of Albert and Mathilda Knopp. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 65 years, Norman C. Koger. Jeanette grew up in Hebbronville, Texas, a place she dearly loved and often returned to throughout her life. Graduating at 16 as the salutatorian of Hebbronville High, the former drum majorette was ready to take on the world. She met Norman in Hebbronville in 1953 and they were married in 1955. Norman’s Army career would take them to Germany, Panama and numerous posts stateside. Always inquisitive and striving for knowledge, she finally got her chance to take college courses when they lived in Huntsville, Texas in the 1970s and earned a BA degree from Sam Houston State University, graduating summa cum laude. After Norman retired from the Army, they returned to Huntsville where she worked for Sam Houston State and for the Texas Department of Corrections as an executive secretary. Upon retirement, they moved to Fredericksburg, Texas in 1994. Jeanette made many friends and was very proud of her German heritage. She had a beautiful voice and loved singing for many years in the Fredericksburg Chorale German choir, while also enjoying the German language classes she attended for years. She loved history, culture, and music and enjoyed traveling as often as possible to experience them. She especially loved traveling to New Orleans for jazz history and Germany and other European countries to take in their rich art and architecture. Jeanette is survived by four children and their spouses, Norman & Tina Koger of Buda, Texas, Brett & Rosalie Koger of Buda, Texas, Kathleen Koger-Burson and Homer Burson of Doss, Texas, and Derek Koger and Morgan Miars of San Francisco, California, as well as numerous grandchildren. She took life by the horns and challenged others to do so as well, and she will be truly missed. The family will be holding a private service
