UTSA women top La. Tech, snap 4-game losing streak

RUSTON, La. — Junior forward Jordyn Jenkins scored 17 points, and the UTSA women’s basketball team snapped a four-game losing streak in a 66-63 victory over Louisiana Tech on Saturday.

The Roadrunner­s (5-15, 3-8 Conference USA) entered the fourth quarter down 53-48 but pulled away in the fourth quarter.

Jenkins also grabbed seven rebounds as UTSA held a 34-25 advantage on the boards. Sophomore forward Elyssa Coleman added 13 points.

Keiunna Walker scored a game-high 22 points for Louisiana Tech (12-9, 5-6).

BAYLOR 79 TEXAS TECH 59

In Lubbock, Darianna Littlepage-Buggs led the Bears (14-6, 5-3 Big 12) with 16 points. Bre’Amber Scott led the Red Raiders (15-6, 3-5) with 22 points.

OKLAHOMA 93 NO. 2 ALABAMA 69

Grant Sherfield scored a season-high 30 points in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge, and the host Sooners (12-9) ended a nine-game winning streak by the Crimson Tide (18-3). Rylen Griffin scored 15 points for Alabama.

NO. 3 HOUSTON 75 CINCINNATI 69

Jarace Walker had a career-high 25 points and seven rebounds, and the host Cougars (20-2, 8-1 American Athletic) rallied from an 11-point secondhalf deficit to defeat the Bearcats (14-8, 5-4).

MISSOURI 78 NO. 12 IOWA STATE 61

Kobe Brown scored 20 points as the host Tigers (16-5) took down the Cyclones (15-5) in the SEC/ Big 12 Challenge. Jaren Holmes led Iowa State with 19 points.

Zach Freemantle led Xavier (17-5, 9-2) with 18 points.

NO. 7 VIRGINIA 76 BOSTON COLLEGE 57

Armaan Franklin and Jayden Gardner scored 18 points apiece, and the host Cavaliers (10-12, 4-7) used a big first-half run to take control for their sixth straight victory.

Quinten Post scored 24 to lead the Eagles (10-12, 4-7) and Makai AshtonLang­ford added 12 points.

CREIGHTON 84 NO. 13 XAVIER 67

Arthur Kamula scored 20 points, and the Bluejays’ four other starters finished in double-figures for their fourth straight Big East win.

Creighton (13-8, 7-3) steadily built a doubledigi­t lead throughout the game and made 34 of its 60 field goal attempts (56.7 percent) before a sold-out crowd.

WEST VIRGINIA 80 NO. 15 AUBURN 77

Erik Stevenson scored a career-high 31 points, and the host Mountainee­rs (13-8) withstood a furious late rally from the Tigers (16-5) to win an SEC/Big 12 Challenge matchup.

Charles Barkley cheered on his alma mater from a courtside seat, but Auburn couldn’t overcome another slow start.

David Joplin went 8 for 11 from 3-point range for a career-high 28 points, Tyler Kolek had a doubledoub­le and the visiting Golden Eagles (17-5, 9-2 Big East) beat the Blue Demons (9-13, 3-8). Umoja Gibson scored 25 points for DePaul.

SOUTHERN MISS 67 TEXAS STATE 58

In Hattiesbur­g, Miss., Jordan Mason and Nighael Ceaser scored 12 points apiece for the Bobcats (11-12, 4-6 Sun Belt).
