Perry H. Finger

-

On Friday, February 10, Perry H. Finger wished his wife a good day, played golf, had lunch with friends, went to the driving range, traded golf clubs, and climbed into the cab of his truck before meeting Jesus faceto-face as a result of a sudden heart attack.

Perry led a full and adventurous life. He was born in Bastrop, TX, on March 18, 1943. From an early age he played most any sport he could find and became an avid outdoor sportsman. At age 13 Perry attended Texas Military Institute (TMI). There he was on the only state champion basketball team ever from the school and was distinguished as the team’s highest scorer. Perry went on to attend the University of Texas, A&I Kingsville, and then graduated from St. Mary’s University.

a stranger led Perry to a successful career in banking, always interwoven with numerous and extreme adventures. Much of his career was with Frost Bank. He also served as President of Kleberg Bank in Kingsville. Of course, as a banker, Perry began playing golf and was active in many of San Antonio’s prominent social clubs, including San Antonio Country Club, Order of the Alamo, German Club, and the Towne Club. As a hunter Perry had numerous Boone & Crocketts and achieved 3 North American Sheep Hunters Grand Slams. As a rider, he rode in cutting horse competitions at the state/regional level. After retiring from banking in Kingsville, Hondo, and San Antonio, Perry spent his time working his family’s ranch outside of D’Hanis.

More than 40 years ago Perry found sobriety. After

participating in a Walk to Emmaus, Perry became very active in the Kairos Prison Ministry, eventually leading a weekend. Perry worshipped His Lord with various congregations, most recently at Alamo Heights Methodist Church.

One of his good friends discussed that there are many people you meet, and then you find a person who changes your life. Perry was that kind of person.

Perry is survived by his wife, Kay Barbour Finger, his son and daughter Perry Clement Finger and Henrietta Finger Armbruster, their spouses Blake Finger and Eric Armbruster, and Henrietta’s daughter, Larkin Armbruster.

A memorial service for Perry will be held at Alamo Heights United Methodist Church on Thursday, February 23 at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Alamo Heights United Methodist Church recovery ministry or the charity of your choice.
