San Antonio developer behind Frost Tower buys downtown motel property

The San Antonio developer behind the new Frost Tower and upcoming high-end apartments has bought up a downtown La Quinta Inn property. A company with ties to Weston Urban, Next to Denny’s LP, purchased the property at 900 Dolorosa St. from Cavalier Texas LP on February 22, according to Bexar County property records.

Weston Urban paid for the property, which was last valued at $8.2 million, according to appraisal district records. It was also not immediately clear why the Weston Urban-associated company is called “Next to Denny’s” since it has not purchased the other downtown San Antonio La Quinta located next to a Denny’s at 303 Blum St. MySA reached out to Weston Urban for comment.

The San Antonio developer, founded by Rackspace co-founder Graham Weston, has two downtown residential towers projects in the works. The group broke ground on a 32-story luxury apartment tower called 300 Main at 305 Soledad St. in April 2022. That project is expected to have ground-floor retail, a six-level parking garage, and 354 multi-family residential units once complete.

Weston Urban is also converting the old Continental Hotel and neighboring Arana buildings into a 16-story apartment tower at 332 W. Commerce

St. The tower will have 255-units and a pool on top of the parking garage. Back in February 2022, Weston Urban also purchased the old Koehler House at 310 West Ashby Place from Alamo Colleges District for $2 million with plans to convert it into a hotel and restaurant.
