Looking for the secret lair inside the sewer system where the iconic heroes known as The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles live? It goes right through San Antonio.

This summer, the new computer-animated movie “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” is hitting theaters, and one of the main voice actors calls the Alamo City home.

Nicolas Cantu, 19, is lending his voice to Leonardo, the leader of the TMNT superhero foursome. The cast announcement was made March 4 at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards by actor Seth Rogen (“Superbad”), who is co-producing the movie and voicing the mutant warthog bad guy known as Bebop.

Along with Cantu playing Leonardo, the other main TMNT characters will be voiced by Micah Abbey (Donatello), Shamon Brown Jr. (Michaelangelo), and Brady Noon (Raphael). The cast also includes John Cena as Rocksteady, Hannibal Buress as Genghis Frog, Paul Rudd as Mondo Gecko and Giancarlo Esposito as Baxter Stockman, just to name a few.

In the teaser trailer for the upcoming film, which debuted online Monday, Cantu’s Leonardo is seen spinning his katana swords and getting queasy when he sees one of Raphael’s sais accidentally stab Donatello in the leg. “I’m gonna be sick,” Leonardo says.

Born in Austin and raised in San Antonio until age 10 (he went to Stone Oak Elementary), Cantu moved back to the 210 late last summer after spending eight years in Los Angeles. He was recently seen in director Steven Spielberg’s latest film, Oscar-nominated drama “The Fabelmans” about Spielberg’s life as a young, aspiring filmmaker.

“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” premieres at theaters nationwide Aug. 4.
