Jesse worked at the Express-News for 20 years in the engraving department, where he earned the nickname “Buffy”. He enjoyed going to work because every day was different. He loved his coworkers and made many wonderful friends.

Jesse enjoyed the Hill Country and looked forward to going to his little place in Bandera, Texas. He imparted the love for the Hill Country with his children and grandchildren.

He married Bertha S. Acosta on August 9, 1969, and stayed faithful and true until his peaceful departure to Heaven. God blessed them with 4 children, Jesse Jr., Monica, Johnny Randy, and Michael.

Mejias, Sofia Gomez, Michael Gomez Jr., and Mia Gomez; brother Guadalupe Bernal; and numerous nieces and nephews.

“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also” John 14: 1-3
