Brooke R. Allison January 16, 1943 - February 7, 2024

-

Brooke Allison passed away peacefully on February 7th with her sons, Christopher and Bennett, by her side. Born in San Antonio, Texas, Brooke was the eldest daughter of Gen. Herman and Jean (Browne) Rumsey. Being part of an Air Force family, frequent moves shaped most of her childhood with stations all around the continental U.S., Japan, and Hawaii.

At age 16, Brooke returned to San Antonio to attend Saint Mary’s

Hall High School. Upon graduation, she attended the University of Texas at Austin where she graduated from the Plan II Program and then went on to earn a master’s degree in American History. During her college years, Brooke made many life-long friends in her sorority, Kappa Kappa Gamma, and had the fortunate opportunity to spend a year abroad in Paris studying at the Sorbonne University.

After college, Brooke came back to San Antonio and taught history for several years at her high school alma mater, Saint Mary’s Hall. However, teaching quickly fell aside after she met the love of her life, Milton (Al) E. Allison Jr., whom she married in 1967. They spent many happy years together full of travel, adventure, and family.

Brooke was an avid gardener and enjoyed planting at the home that she and Al shared on Patterson Ave. and then on Haverhill Way. To that end, Brooke was a member of the Green Hand Garden Club and the Alamo Heights Terrell Hills Garden Club. She also loved to read, cook, arrange flowers, paint, and engage in other creative endeavors. Brooke was also a member of the Battle of Flowers Association and had many happy memories of attending the Battle of Flowers Parade each year in her yellow hat and dress.

Brooke is survived by her sons Christopher (Anita) and Bennett (Monica), six dear grandchildren who knew her as “Mimi” Robert, Elizabeth, Katie, Abby, Caroline, and Lilly, sisters Anne Hardinge and Wendy Kilcollin (Rick), and other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.

Her memory will never be forgotten.

The family wishes to extend thanks to the staff at The Franklin, Vitas Healthcare, and AA Care Services for the attentive and kind care they provided along with a very special thank you to Lupe Mojica for her many years of loving care and for the vigil she kept over Brooke in her final days. We are also grateful to the many friends Brooke & Al shared over the years and for their generous visits to see her at The Franklin in her final years.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 16th at 11AM at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church (315 E. Pecan St., San Antonio, TX 78205). In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the Battle of Flowers Association.
