Marjorie Shields Johnson was born March 9, 1936, and left this world on January 11, 2024. Marge was born and raised in Whitley Bay, England. World War II played a big role during her childhood; she spoke of nights spent in the bomb shelter buried in the backyard and the church at the end of her street being bombed, a tragedy that killed two friends. At age 15 she entered a program with the National Health Service of England to finish her education while also training to be a nurse. By 16 she was caring for premature babies. Also at 16, she was permitted to go to her first dance where she met her first boyfriend George

Johnson. After becoming an RN, Marge trained to be a midwife. While working in Edinburgh, a nurse from NYC visited her hospital in an attempt to encourage doctors and nurses to work in America. She and three friends made the move on a trial basis. She met the doctor who would be her first husband, and decided to stay in the USA at the end of the planned stay. Quitting her career when her daughters were born did not mean that she didn’t work. She worked tirelessly volunteering for the girls’ schools, the family’s church, and countless philanthropic organizations. She was a force to be reckoned with! After her first marriage ended, a friend in England asked that first boyfriend George (now a widower) to reach out to Marge. She picked up the phone one day to a voice singing a song he sang to her while they were dating as teenagers. After several transatlantic trips for each, they married on July 3, 1992, because as George said, “three thousand miles was a long walk home.” They were side by side until the very end. Marge leaves behind her loving husband George Johnson; daughters Karen Green and Kim Green Brigham (Tim); stepdaughter Heather Johnson Budd (Tim); grandchildren Amie Budd, Susie Budd, Riley Pirinelli, Toby Brigham,

Brittney Brigham, and Tommy Brigham; great-grandson Matteo Brigham; her former husband and father of her children David P. Green; and numerous friends on both sides of the pond (particularly in San Antonio, Texas and Miami and Palm Coast, Florida). A private celebration of life will be held at a later date in San Antonio, Texas.
