-

Maria Elida Medrano (nee Hernandez De Leon) peacefully passed away in San Antonio, Texas, on 16 March 2024, at the age of 93. In her long and full life, Elida was the wife of retired U.S. Air Force service member Guillermo R. Medrano and the mother of their 6 children. She and Guillermo had been married just shy of 50 years before his passing in 2001 at the age of 69.

Elida is predeceased by her parents Marcos Hernandez San Miguel and Maria Eusebia De Leon, her sisters Eloisa “Licha” and Estela, and her brothers Jose Facundo “Cundo” and Marcos Hernandez. Elida is survived by her children - Mario, Ricardo, Susie, Guillermo Jr, Rosabel, and Luis,

numerous grandchildren, as well her siblings Francisca (Pancha), Domingo (Mingo), Lidia, and Maria Elena (Nena).

Born on 30 December 1930 in Agua Dulce, Nueces County, Texas, Elida spent much of her childhood in the vicinities of Roma, Starr County, Texas, Agualeguas in Nuevo Leon, Mexico, and Ciudad Miguel Aleman (before 1950 - San Pedro de Roma), Tamaulipas, Mexico. Elida was the oldest child in her family - from an early age she worked as a farm laborer and ranch hand and helped her mother maintain the family homestead.

After marrying on 1 December 1951, Elida accompanied her husband Guillermo on numerous Air Force re-locations,

including California, Oklahoma, Colorado, Maine, Michigan, Texas, and 3 years in West Germany. Besides cooking, her favorite pastime was working on quilts; however, she also enjoyed working on other assorted arts and crafts activities. Sadly, in the last decade of her life, debilitating hip pain, arthritis, severe scoliosis, and loss of eyesight increasingly prevented her from enjoying most things. Ultimately, she and her family saw her eventual passing as a welcome relief from all of her physical ailments and her mental anxiety.

The viewing/memorial service held in her honor will be at the San Antonio M.E. Rodriguez Funeral home, 511 South Guadalupe Street, at 12pm-4pm on 30 March 2024. Shortly after, she will be taken to Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her husband Guillermo.
