Woman suspected of shooting parents, self

- By Taylor Pettaway STAFF WRITER

A 50-year-old woman is alleged to have shot and killed her parents in their Northeast Side home Thursday before apparently attempting suicide, police said.

The woman called 911 just before 7 a.m. and said she shot her 79-year-old mother and 84-yearold father in their residence in the 5000 block of Round Table Drive, Police Chief William

Mcmanus said.

When officers arrived, they heard gunfire and found the daughter in the back yard with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Mcmanus said. The woman was taken to the hospital in grave condition, police said.

“If she lives, she will be charged for this,” Mcmanus said.

Neighbors, who wished to remain anonymous, said they were outside and only a few houses away from the crime scene and didn't hear anything.

Investigators said they found a note in the house from the daughter, but did not disclose what it said.

“We know both parents were in failing health and the daughter had been staying with them for the last 10 days, but we don't know if that had anything to do with this shooting,” Mcmanus said.

Neighbors said the couple had lived in the home for decades and described them as compassionate, sweet and very involved in the neighborhood.

“We are just in shock. This kind of thing doesn't happen here,” said one woman, who did not want to be identified. “We are a close-knit neighborhood. Everyone knows everyone on the street.”

Neighbors said they never had met the elderly couple's daughter.

Police, who have yet to identify the family, said they have never had issues at the home.
