The invisible board

I echo Frederick Williams’ statements about this littleknown board. I served on it from 2011 through 2018. I and others, including officers, spent many hours reviewing cases, holding meetings and making recommendations for action by the chief of police regarding officers who had complaints against them.

The effort — labor- and timeintensive — is worthwhile and on a volunteer basis. The board needs some changes, which have to be through contract negotiations with the police union.

The union, the San Antonio Police Officers Association, has, in my opinion, far too much power, and the contract’s arbitration clause, which basically renders the chief powerless in discipline, needs to be eliminated. getting into my respiratory system.”

So, if you’re as selfish as I am, do the right thing: Wear a mask!
