Mullins lifts Rice past UIW in season opener

Chris Mullins had 15 points and Travis Evee and Max Fiedler each added 12 as Rice beat Incarnate Word 68-53 on Friday at the McDermott Center in the opener for both teams.

Keaston Willis lead all scorers with 22 points for the Cardinals, while Drew Lutz added 11.

The teams were supposed to meet Wednesday, but the game was called off after an 80-minute delay because the Titans’ COVID-19 test results hadn’t come back.

Angel Reese and Diamond Miller each scored 20 points as No. 12 Maryland opened the season with a 94-72 victory at the tournament at Fort Myers, Fla. In other games at the tournament, No. 12 Arkansas beat Wake Forest 98-82, and No. 24 Missouri State stomped Florida Gulf Coast 74-49.
