Texas A&M whips Wofford after slow start

COLLEGE STATION — Emanuel Miller had 16 points and eight rebounds, freshman Hassan Diarra added 14 points and Texas A&M beat Wofford 70-52 on Monday.

Diarra beat the halftime buzzer with a 3-pointer from the wing to give Texas A&M a 29-28 lead, and the Aggies led the rest of the way. Wofford was within 55-46 but Texas A&Manswered with a12-0 run — with scoring from four different players — to seal it.

Miller, who has three doubledoub­les with at least 20 points this season, made 10 of 13 free throws. The Aggies went to the line 35 times compared to Wofford’s 4of-19 shooting at the stripe

Jay Jay Chandler added 10 points for Texas A&M (5-1), which is scheduled to play LSU on Dec. 29. He was helped off the court with 13:37 left in the second half after hitting his head on the floor. Savion Flagg, averaging 10 points, 6.8 rebounds and a team-high 3.6 assists, did not play.

Texas A&M trailed 15-3 after Wofford made its first five 3-pointers. The Terriers were 8 of 16 from distance in the first half, and finished 12 of 34.

Freshman Max Klesmit scored 14 points, making four 3-pointers, for Wofford (3-3). B.J. Mack, averaging 8.4 points and 5.2 rebounds, did not play.

In Spokane, Wash., Corey Kispert scored 27 points as the Bulldogs (5-0) cruised in their home opener Anton Watson scored 15 points for Gonzaga, while Jalen Suggs added 12 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.

Cryer scored 15 points to lead five players in double figures as the Bears cruised.

The Bears (6-0), the only Big 12 team left without a loss, have scored at least 80 points in six consecutiv­e games for the first time since 1994.

They hit that mark on Cryer’s 3pointer with 9:33 left when they went up 81-30.

Cryer finished with four 3pointers for Baylor, which was shot 48 percent (11 of 23) from long range and 52 percent (37 of 71)

from the field overall.

NO. 8 TENNESSEE 102 SAINT JOSEPH’S 66

In Knoxville, Tenn., Oregon transfer Victor Bailey (18 points) was one of six players who scored in double figures for the Vols (5-0).

Santiago Vescovi had 16 points, seven rebounds and five assists, while Yves Pons added 13 points and nine rebounds.

Keon Johnson had 12 points, and John Fulkerson and Jaden Springer each scored 10.

Saint Joseph’s is 0-5.

In Tallahasse­e, Fla., Anthony Polite had a career-high 15 points and Balsa Koprivica added a season-best 14 as the Seminoles (5-1) pulled away late.

Polite scored in double figures for the fourth straight game. The redshirt junior guard did so just six times in the 2019-20 season.

The Seminoles outrebound­ed Gardner Webb 53-30 and went 24 of 32 (75 percent) from the free throw line to put the game away.

In Blacksburg, Va., Jalen Cone scored 18 points off the bench to lead the Hokies.

Cone shot 6 of 15 from the floor — all 3-pointers — for the Hokies (7-1), who struggled for 30 minutes but heated up down the stretch to win their third in a row.

Leslie Nkereuwem paced Longwood (1-7) with 10 points.

TEXAS STATE 70 NORTHERN ARIZONA 65

In Denver, Caleb Asberry had 21 points for the Bobcats (6-3).

Mason Harrell had 13 points for Texas State. Isiah Small and Alonzo Sule had 12 points.

Cameron Shelton had 22 points, six rebounds and six assists for the Lumberjack­s (0-5).

Francesca Belibi dunked again and scored 15 points, and the Cardinal (7-0, 4-0 Pac-12) survived their closest game of the season.

In Pullman, Wash., Nyara Sabally scored 19 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, and the Ducks (7-0, 5-0 Pac-12) extended the nation’s longest winning streak to 26 games.

In Manhattan, Kan., Charli Collier scored 27 points in a bruising low-post battle in the Longhorns’ Big 12 opener. The Longhorns (6-1, 1-0) used full-court pressure to rattle Kansas State into 34 turnovers, one shy of the K-State record.
