The Alamo is showing a sampling of items from the Phil Collins Collection that the British rock star has donated to the historic mission and battle site.

Five of the more than 200 items Collins donated for public viewing are on exhibit through April 25. The exhibit opened Tuesday for Texas Independence Day.

The exhibit allows visitors “to glimpse a selection of priceless artifacts graciously gifted to the state of Texas by musician and historian Phil Collins,” the Alamo said in a release. The “Phil Collins Collection Preview“features a brass cannon used by the Mexican Army during the Battle of the Alamo; the original battle orders from Gen. Antonio López de Santa Anna for the early morning attack on the fort on March 6, 1836; and other “precious historic artifacts” from the battle.

“The public has been very interested in seeing the Collins Collection. It has been an honor to care for and preserve these artifacts over the years,” said Kristi Miller Nichols, director of archaeology, collections and historical research at the Alamo.

Collins announced the donation of his collection in June 2014.

The items are on display in the Alamo Exhibit Hall on the south end of the Alamo grounds. Visitors can book access to the exhibit at thealamo.org or at the Alamo Welcome Center in Alamo Plaza.

The exhibit will be part of the audio tours at the state-owned complex, which are priced at $7 per person.

The exhibit offers a sampling of what will be on display in the new Alamo Exhibition Hall & Collections Building, set to open on the grounds in the spring of 2022. The building will serve as a curatorial facility, and provide “additional gallery space” to complement a planned Alamo museum and visitor center, now in developmental stages, the Alamo said.
