ALICE LUNA MARTINEZ

March 30, 1944 - February 7, 2021

Alice Luna Martinez was called home to be with the Lord on February 7, 2021 at the age of 76. She is reunited in Heaven with her parents, Simon B. and Eva (Uriegas) Luna and brothers- Simon R. and Enrique Roland Luna.

Her life will continue to be celebrated by her husband, Gilbert, of 49 years, son- Brian and wife Denise, daughtersm­elissa and Laura, granddaugh­tersKayla, Isabella, and Serenity Martinez, sisterhele­n Garcia and husband Richard, sister-in-law Mary Josephine Luna, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends.

Alice was born on March 30, 1944 in San Antonio (Losoya), Texas. She graduated Valedictor­ian of the Southside High School class of 1962. She went on to Incarnate Word College where she played basketball and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical and Health Education in 1966. She began her 33 year teaching career at her high school Alma Mater where she taught Biology and coached championsh­ip volleyball teams before returning to Incarnate Word to obtain a Master of Arts Degree in Secondary Education (Summa Cum Laude) in 1973. She continued her teaching with a stop at Harlandale High School before finally spending the remaining 23 years of her career teaching 7th grade Life Science at Pleasanton Jr. High School.

A lifelong parishione­r of El Carmen Catholic Church, Alice spent countless years volunteeri­ng her time with youth groups, R.C.I.A., and various other ministries within the church.

She spent much of her later years singing in the church choir, as well as assisting church families through their grief by saying The Most Holy Rosary at wake services.

Ever the teacher, Alice instilled her values and love of knowledge to thousands of students, both in the classroom and in life. Her legacy lives on not only in her devoted family and other loved ones in the teaching profession, but in each and every life she touched.

ALL services will be held on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at El Carmen Catholic Church (18555 Leal Rd., S.A., Texas 78221). Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., Rosary recited at 9:30 a.m., Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m., and interment will follow in El Carmen Cemetery. For the safety of everyone, face coverings will be need to be worn.
