CISTA H. HERNANDEZ

August 6th, 1924 - February 23rd, 2021

On Tuesday, February 23rd, 2021, Cista H. Hernandez, loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, went peacefully to be with the Lord surrounded by loved ones. Cista was born in New Orleans, Louisiana August 6th, 1924. She moved between Mcallen and San Antonio while raising her siblings. Through the help and support of family and friends and her hard work and determination to give her family a better life, she found work throughout San Antonio while serving her family and community endlessly.

Cista was a strong and passionate woman who supported herself and her 5 daughters. She loved helping others and was an active volunteer with the Harlandale Civic Center, St. Vincent de Paul and St. Leo’s Church as well as a member of the Guadalupana’s. She loved playing Bingo and dancing whenever a chance arose. She had a genuine passion for life and embraced family and stranger alike. She enjoyed spending time with her multiple grand children ,great grand children and great, great grandchildren.

Cista was preceded in death by her father, Manuel, and her mother Matiana, her sister Teresa H. Salazar, and her brother Matias H, Ramos. She is survived by her brothers Isaac Hernandez, Santiago Ramos, her 5 daughters, Guadalupe Almaraz, Elisa Herrera, Maria Flores, Cista Hernandez, and Mariana Thomas and 15 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and 4 great, great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Thursday, March 11th, 2021 at St. Leo’s Catholic Church at 10am.
