FRESHWATER

BASTROP: SLOW. Water lightly stained; 51 degrees; Largemouth bass are slow fishing cranks and jerk baits near creeks and rocky shorelines. Crappie are slow on minnows in brush piles and standing timber in 14-25’. Channel and blue catfish are fair on cut bait, punch bait. BELTON: FAIR. Water lightly stained; 53 Degrees; 0.77 low. Black bass are fair near rocky shorelines, creek edges, and channel drop-offs on A-rigs, craws, and chatter baits. White bass are fair on the main lake points, creek channels, and drop-offs with flutter spoons, slabs, and swimbaits. Hybrid stripers are slow with swimbaits in the main lake from 25-40’. Crappie are fair on minnows and jigs in brush piles, timber on or near a drop off and deep creek beds. Catfish are fair on punch bait and cut bait.

BRAUNIG GOOD. Water lightly stained; 58-61 degrees; Largemouth bass are good with vegetation close to the ends of the lake on plastic worms, spinners, and jigs hitting. Striped bass are fair mid-lake. Red drum are fair watching surface activity of birds and bites on natural bait. Catfish are good on live bait and cheese bait.

BROWNWOOD: FAIR. Water stained; 47 degrees; 3.05 low. Largemouth bass are fair with spinners, crankbaits, and jigs in coves and shorelines. Crappie are fair on minnows in brush piles and timber edges near a creek channel or drop-off. White bass and hybrids are fair on slabs and swimbaits in the creeks. Catfish are fair on punch bait and cut bait in 12-25’ near baited areas.

BUCHANAN: GOOD. Water clear; 52 degrees; 6.83 low. Largemouth bass are fair with finesse worms, crankbaits, jigs, and craws. Striped bass are good along the river channel with live bait and swimbaits. White bass are good on crankbaits and swimbaits in the creeks and main lake points. Crappie are fair on minnows and jigs in 15-25’ fishing docks, timber, and brush piles. Channel catfish are fair on punch bait. Blue cats are good on cut bait.

CALAVERAS: FAIR. Water stained; 63-67 degrees; Red Drum are fair to good with activity picking up and along with surface activity on live bait working mid-lake. Black bass are good-looking between 2-15 feet of the banks, especially close to Hondo Creek. Hybrid striped bass are fair finding the baitfish on rattle traps moving mid-lake. Catfish are good on stinkbait, chicken livers, and cut shad.

CANYON LAKE: GOOD. Water clear; 52 degrees; 5.78 low. Striper fishing is good along the river channel with live bait and swimbaits. White bass are good on humps, flats, and ridges with slabs and creeks with small swimbaits and rooster tails. Largemouth bass are fair with jigs and plastic finesse worms near points, timber, and rock piles. Smallmouth bass are good on small swimbaits, plastic grubs, and small cranks in 5-15’ along rock ledges and steep rocky shorelines. Catfish are good with prepared baits and cut bait. Crappie are fair with live minnows near timber in 18-30’.

CHOKE CANYON: FAIR. Water lightly stained; 62-65 degrees; 22.77’ low. Largemouth bass are good staying in the Frio, as well as shallow vegetation structures on jigs, plastic worms, and crankbaits. White bass are fair, moving out from creeks and coves on points with small crankbaits and plastics. Catfish are consistent­ly good on larger live bait, cut baits, and stinkbait.

FALCON: GOOD. Water lightly stained north and clear south; 66 degrees; 39.83’ low. We have seen lots of large catches with some really deep fish coming up to the surface for spawning. Black bass are good in 4-8 feet, moving up along the edges as the spawn has hit its peak on Falcon and will remain for a little while. Topwater, shaky heads, soft plastics, and senokos are all good, and don’t forget the timber. Crappie are good in hardwoods and many of the same spots as bass. Catfish are very good working creek points using live bait and real stinky bait. Remember to stay on the Texas side unless you possess a Mexican Fishing License.

GRANGER GOOD. Water lightly stained; 52 degrees; 0.41 high. Black bass are fair on crankbaits, suspended jerk baits, and skirted jigs near rocky shorelines, brushy creeks, and timber in 8-15’. Crappie are good on minnows and jigs on brush piles and timber near a drop-off in 1428’. White bass are good on small swimbaits and jigs near lake channels and in the creeks. Catfish are fair on punch bait. Yellow cats are fair.

LBJ FAIR. Water lightly stained; 45 degrees; 0.70 low. Black bass are slow on shaky heads, jerk baits, jigs, and crankbaits worked near brush, main lake points, and rock ledges. Crappie are fair on minnows and jigs around brush piles, rock ledges, and docks. White bass are fair over main humps and creeks with jigging spoons and slabs. Catfish are slow on punch bait and cut bait in 14-28’ in baited areas.

STILLHOUSE: GOOD. Water clear; 43 degrees; 0.55 high. Black bass are fair on chatter baits, finesse jigs, and A-rigs working creeks, brush piles, ledges and points. Smallmouth bass are fair with small jigs and plastic grubs near rocky shorelines, creek ledges, and drop-offs. Crappie are good on minnows in brush piles and standing timber in 14-28’. White bass are good on slabs off main lake ridges, humps, drop-offs, and along the dam. Channel catfish are fair with punch bait. Blue cats are fair with cut bait.

TRAVIS FAIR. Water clear; 54 degrees; 22.22 low. Largemouth bass are fair with crankbaits, jigs, jerk baits, and finesse worms near coves, bluffs, and ledges. White bass are fair with slabs working main lake channel, drop-offs, and creeks. Striper action along the main river channel is fair with live bait and swimbaits. Trolling is fair with swimbaits and crankbaits. Crappie are good on minnows in 15-35’ near docks, brush piles, and rock ledges. Catfish are fair on cut bait and prepared baits in 14-30’.

WALTER E. LONG GOOD. Water lightly stained; 48 degrees; Largemouth bass are good on drop shots, crankbaits, and jigs near timber, creek ledges, and brushy shorelines. Hybrid stripers are good with live bait. Crappie are fair on minnows and jigs in 14-28’ near brush piles and timber. Catfish are fair on cut bait and live bait. Sunfish are slow.

SALTWATER

BAFFIN BAY: FAIR. 66 degrees. Fishing for speckled trout and redfish will be in the shallow water, less than a foot where it is warmest, and are good on paddle tail. Black drum are plentiful in the deeper water transition­s or around vegetation on dead shrimp.

CORPUS CHRISTI: FAIR. 59 degrees. Black drum is excellent and are caught around Bob Hall pier on dead shrimp. Redfish and speckled trout are fair and may be found near Mustang Island or over shell-on shrimp. Catch and release is encouraged in this area for the time being to help the fisheries recover.

EAST MATAGORDA BAY: GOOD. 59 degrees. Speckled trout are found around the ICW on mullet. The black drum are here - use bass assassins or dead shrimp and stay in the deeper water or around structure.

PORT ARANSAS: FAIR. 69 degrees. The assessment is ongoing to determine the effect of the freeze. For now, you should have some luck with black drum on mullet or shrimp in the deeper water, and speckled trout and redfish may be found around the jetty on mullet or shrimp.

PORT ISABEL: FAIR. 66 degrees. Black drum are good in the land cut on crab. Speckled trout and redfish may be found around the jetties and are good on mullet.

PORT MANSFIELD: POOR. 72 degrees. The speckled trout have been hit hard from the freeze and are hard to find on any given day. The redfish look to be in better numbers working the flats and using kwiggler willow tail and ball tail in Mansfield margarita. Be sure to keep what you need and practice catch and release until we can get more informatio­n on the fish kill.

PORT O’CONNOR: POOR. 57 degrees. Some speckled trout have been found around the flats or near Grass Island and are best on shrimp under a cork. Flounder are good around the jetty on shrimp.

ROCKPORT: POOR. 67 degrees. Black drum are excellent right now and are found around structure on dead shrimp. Speckled trout and redfish are fair to good on shrimp or mullet if you can find them.

STILLHOUSE: SLOW. Water clear; 43 degrees; 0.55 high. Black bass are fair on finesse jigs, and A-rigs working creeks, brush piles, ledges and points. Smallmouth bass are fair with small jigs and plastic grubs near rocky shorelines, creek ledges, and drop-offs. Crappie are slow on minnows in brush piles and standing timber in 14-28’. White bass are slow on slabs off main lake ridges, humps, drop-offs, and along the dam. Channel catfish are fair with punch bait. Blue cats are fair with cut bait.

SOUTH PADRE: FAIR. 65 degrees. Black drum are in the deeper water and are best on shrimp. Speckled trout may be hard to find for a while. Redfish can be found around the jetties and are good on mullet.

WEST MATAGORDA BAY: FAIR TO GOOD. 59 degrees. Redfish and black drum can be found around the reefs on live shrimp. Speckled trout are a little harder to find due to the recent weather conditions but look in the deeper water and use shrimp.
