AT&T Center earns high safety rating
Even as they struggle to win at the AT&T Center this season, the Spurs’ home court has claimed a championship of sorts.
The AT&T Center, along with Toyota Field, have earned the WELL Health-safety Rating for prioritizing the health and safety of staff and visitors, Spurs Sports & Entertainment announced Wednesday.
The AT&T Center is the first NBA arena in Texas to achieve the evidence-based, third-party verified rating for all new and existing buildings, focusing on operational policies, maintenance protocols, stakeholder engagement and emergency plans for a POST-COVID-19 environment, according to a news release.
Toyota Field is home to San Antonio FC and is the first USL soccer stadium in the state to earn the certification.
“For our staff and guests, the WELL Health-safety Rating goes beyond our efforts to respond to COVID-19,” said Casey Heverling, vice president and general manager of the AT&T Center.
“For SS&E, this is a new standard we are proactively taking for everyone who enters one of our facilities,” Heverling added. “This rating assures our guests we’re taking every step possible to provide the healthiest and safest environment possible and are committed to maintaining these standards.”
SS&E has made several changes since April 2020 to policies, procedures and operations at its facilities.
To achieve the WELL Healthsafety Rating, SS&E provided detailed information about health and safety programs in 18 areas for each facility and underwent two comprehensive reviews evaluating criteria for each, according to the news release.
AT&T Center and Toyota Field were awarded the WELL Healthsafety Rating after the successful completion of a review by Green Building Certification Institute to confirm they had met certain benchmarks.
