Lowrie powers Athletics’ rally to beat D-backs

PHOENIX — Jed Lowrie hit a tying, three-run homer in the seventh inning, Seth Brown had a solo shot in the next frame and the Oakland Athletics rallied from a fiverun deficit to beat the Arizona Diamondbac­ks 7-5 on Tuesday.

Carson Kelly hit a three-run homer in the second inning and Arizona scored two more in the third. Zac Gallen struck out eight in his season debut and gave up one run in four innings — Stephen Piscotty’s solo homer.

Mark Canha made it 5-2 win an RBI single, and Lowrie followed with a three-run homer. Brown led off the eighth with his homer off Anthony Swarzak (0-1).

Yusmeiro Petit (3-0) got the final out in the seventh inning for the win. Oakland has won five of six since starting the season 0-6.

RED SOX 4, TWINS 2: Rafael Devers homered for the fourth straight game, and streaking Boston beat host Minnesota Twins on a snowy afternoon in a series opener moved back following the fatal police shooting of Daunte Wright, a Black man, in a nearby suburb.

The Twins held a moment of silence for Wright before Tuesday’s game.

Hunter Renfroe hit a solo homer and Bobby Dalbec added a pair of RBI doubles as Boston won its seventh in a row.

Adam Ottavino (1-0) earned the win. Randy Dobnak (0-2) took the loss for Minnesota, which has lost three in a row.

MARINERS 4, ORIOLES 3 (8): Kyle Seager hit an RBI double in the eighth and visiting Seattle won its third extra-inning game in as many tries this season, beating Baltimore in the first game of a doublehead­er.

Seattle won its third in a row. The Orioles have dropped four straight and six of seven.

Rafael Montero (1-0) earned the victory despite surrenderi­ng the lead in the seventh inning.

METS 4, PHILLIES 3 (8): Didi Gregorius singled to drive in Andrew Mccutchen in the top of the eighth, but host New York responded with RBI singles by Pete Alonso and Jonathan Villar to beat Philadelph­ia in the first game of a doublehead­er.

Dominic Smith homered in the first to give the Mets a 2-0 lead.

Trevor May pitched the eighth and allowed the run but earned the win, striking out two. Hector Neris took the loss for the Phillies.
