A touching tribute

Deborah Martin: I so much enjoyed reading your marvelous tribute to Greg Hinojosa.
Thank you for crafting such a touching essay about him and his life.

Castro’s too late
Former HUD Secretary Julián Castro came out in favor of Proposition B. When he was mayor, he did not address the same issues he’s talking about now. To do it now, though, he is taking collective bargaining away from a group of workers — in this case, the police.
When a group of workers has its collective bargaining rights taken away, that is considered union-busting. The former mayor should have taken care of this problem two administrations ago. Now he wants to be a unionbuster. Sad.

Bush vs. Paxton? Yes!
Re: “Land commissioner eyes a run against Paxton,” April 10, Metro:
Kudos to Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush — aka “P,” son and grandson in the honorable Bush family — for stating that Texans “deserve better” than Attorney General Ken Paxton. A truism if ever there was one.
“P” also stated that the top law official in Texas should be above reproach. Really? Since when? Texas politicians, including Paxton, are not known for their honesty.
Too bad Grandmother Barbara Bush isn’t around to help “P” in his quest to unseat Paxton. His only chance at being successful is for his father, Jeb, and his Uncle George to speak out against those so-called Republicans who have demonized the Grand Old Party and made it what it is today: a disruptive do-nothing bunch of Trump loyalists. No guts, no glory.
