Man charged in slaying; 2 others indicted
Two men accused of shooting at a police officer and another man accused of killing a man during a domestic disturbance in Alamo Heights were among those indicted by Bexar County grand juries last week.
Overall, the grand juries handed down 290 felony indictments, according to the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office.
In one case, Julius Inteus Burge, 28, is charged with murder in the death of Benjamin Michael Holl.
On Sept. 14, Burge and Holl were reportedly arguing in the 100 block of Arcadia Place. The argument escalated, and Burge shot Holl multiple times, Alamo Heights police allege.
Holl died at the scene, authorities said.
Police said three of the bullets
fired by Burge struck a nearby vehicle with at least two other people inside. They were not injured, investigators said.
Burge remains at the Bexar County Jail with bail set at $150,000.
The cases are being prosecuted by the family violence division in the 399th District Court. Murder is a first-degree felony punishable by five to 99 years or life in prison and a possible fine of up to $10,000, the district attorney’s office said.
In a separate case, Jacob Anthony Garcia, 18, and Hilario Gabriel Urista, 30, were indicted on a charge of attempted capital
murder of a police officer.
Deputies Andrew Arredondo and Steve Perez were responding to reports of a burglary in a far West Side neighborhood when Garcia and Urista fired at them, officials said.
Salazar previously said one of the men fired seven rounds at the first deputy who arrived in the area of Baffin Peak near Joint Base San Antonio-lackland.
Two of the rounds narrowly missed the deputy, hitting the patrol car’s door frame and window, Salazar said.
A second deputy then found Urista and Garcia, both of whom were armed with semi-automatic
pistols, hiding behind a vehicle in the 9800 block Twinbear Creek.
Salazar said one of the two then began shooting at that deputy.
Urista’s indictment only mentions Arredondo, while Garcia’s indictment alleges that he fired at both deputies.
After the second shooting, both men led the deputies on a brief chase, jumping over fences and attempting to break into several homes in the neighborhood, Salazar said.
They were finally able to enter a residence and took vehicle keys from inside the home before they were confronted by the homeowner, the sheriff said.
The deputies were placed on administrative leave, Salazar said.
Urista was also indicted on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, accused of using a firearm to threaten a man on June 17, the district attorney’s office said. Indictments for evading arrest or detention with a vehicle and criminal mischief from $2,500 to less than $30,000 allege that he struck a San Antonio police vehicle with a vehicle in which he was fleeing from an officer on June 25.
Garcia and Urista were indicted on a charge of burglary of a habitation by force, alleging that they broke into a home with intent to commit theft on Sept. 9.
Garcia and Urista remain in jail as of Friday. Garcia’s bail totals $700,000, while Urista’s totals $825,000.
