“Black Cowboys: An American Story”: This exhibit digs into the lives and work of Black men, women and children who worked on Texas ranches from before the Civil War through the turn of the 20th century. “Nature, Power and Maya Royals”: Exhibition features 34 objects and works of art discovered by University of Texas at San Antonio researcher­s at two royal Maya burial sites at the ancient city of Buenavista del Cayo, Belize. Swerv O Harold: This selftaught artist uses minimalist imagery to evoke “strong, lasting, emotional attachment” and express a unique, playful style all his own. He has been featured in the San Antonio Current, where he and 20 other artists were

“Vaqueros de la Cruz del Diablo: Contempora­ry Photograph­y of the Northern Mexico Cowboy”: The Briscoe Western Art Museum’s big fall show is this exhibit of images photograph­er Werner Segarra took over the course of 20 years depicting the work and home lives of cowboys in Sonora. A closing event 2-4 p.m. Saturday will feature a discussion with photograph­er Joel Salcido and Segarra. Through Monday, Briscoe Western Art Museum, 210 W.
