Weekly fishing report for select areas from the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department:

FRESHWATER

AUSTIN: FAIR. Water clear; 80 degrees; 0.62 feet low. Bass are fair near deeper docks with shade biting dropshots or shaky heads, dragging worms over brush piles, and in the heart of big laydowns using a jig. Fish near the mouths of creeks with shad patterned jerkbait, or cranking around shallow rock with shad colored shallow diving crankbait. BRAUNIG: FAIR. Water lightly stained, 84 degrees. Fall patterns are emerging. Catfish and red drum have been fair on live baits, cut shad and shrimp off the recreation­al shoreline. Boaters working the dam area are catching spawn patterned red drum on spoons, crankbaits and tilapia. Largemouth bass have been fair on pumpkin seed Carolina rigged soft plastics and topwaters early morning and late evening.

CALAVERAS: GOOD. Water lightly stained, 84 degrees. Red drum fall pattern is underway up and down the rocks at the dam working live bait, crankbaits and spoons have been producing some fair results. Shoreline anglers using live baits have been doing good on live tilapia and frozen shrimp throughout the recreation­al shoreline. Blue and channel Catfish have been good on cut bait and cheese bait in 20-30 feet of water during the day and working to nearby shorelines and coves at night.

CANYON LAKE: GOOD. Water lightly stained; 79-81 degrees; 7.48 feet low. Bass are excellent on topwater lures around grass first thing in the morning Flipping into the grass and hydrilla in 18-22 feet after lunch. Striped bass are good on the lower end using topwaters and swimbaits. Fish are suspending in front of the dam and spillway in 35-55 feet of water biting on jigging spoons and flutter spoons. Crappie are fair up the river on live bait.

CHOKE CANYON: GREAT. Water stained; 83-87 degrees; 22.89 feet low. Bass fishing is good with topwaters, buzz baits and frogs in grass. In the afternoon on the edge grass throw chatterbai­ts, square bill crankbaits, flukes or senkos in watermelon or green pumpkins colors. Crappie are excellent on live bait over brush piles 12-18 feet of water. Catfish are along the edge of grass with cheese bait or shrimp.

GRANGER: GOOD. Water lightly stained; 83 degrees; 2.12 feet low. Black bass are fair on spinnerbai­ts fished around structure. Crappie are good on Slab City Micro Jigs tipped with Berkley Crappie Nibbles. White bass are good on slab spoons fished over humps in 10-15 feet of water. Blue catfish are good drifting cut shad in 5-20 feet of water. Yellow catfish are fair on live bait.

FALCON: GOOD. Water stained; 85 degrees; 39.40 feet low. Catfish are good in 10-12 feet of water at the mouth of creek channels with cut bait. Bass are on rocks in 10-25 feet of water using plastics and jigs. Crappie are on vertical timber and main made brush piles in 15-30 feet of water. Gar bow fishing has slowed with the cold fronts.

LBJ: GOOD. Water lightly stained; 85 degrees; 0.34 feet low. Bass are fair midlake near grass with topwaters, spinnerbai­t and chatterbai­ts near grass, and in 815 feet of water over brush throwing Texas or Carolina rigs. Crappie are fair on minnows. Crappie continue to be good with chartreuse jigs in 12-18 feet of water. Catfish are good with punch bait in 18-24 feet of water. MEDINA: SLOW. Water lightly stained; 85 o; 76.86 feet low. Few reports and anglers on the water due to the low lake levels, it is at 7.4-percent. Best success will be near the dam.

TRAVIS: GOOD. Stained; 80 degrees; 38.38 feet low. Bass are good with ½ ounce topwater frogs along rocks, grass, stumps, brush in the creeks. Bigger bass are hiding in the cover waiting to ambush bait fish. Targeting shady spots in the creeks using Texas rigs putting bass in the boat. Bass are good starting the day with topwater lures along shorelines. Fish are scattered all throughout the lake at various depths. Bass are good fishing a squarebill crankbait, medium diver crankbait or weedless paddle tail swimbaits around flat shoreline with chunk rock. In the height of the sun on a cloudless day throw dropshots around docks to put a few bass in the boat.

SALTWATER

BAFFIN BAY: GOOD. 91 degrees. Bay fishing has been great the last few days in the high tides, cooler water, and trout green water. In these conditions the shrimp thieves slow down giving the larger fish a chance to hit our shrimp. Slot redfish, a few nice trout and limits of black drum are biting on live shrimp under a popping cork.

CORPUS CHRISTI: SLOW. 81 degrees. Smaller sized redfish and trout are being caught. Redfish are near Shamrock Island with cut bait or piggy perch.

EAST MATAGORDA BAY: SLOW. 81 degrees. Cold fronts will improve wade fishing, while slowing fishing from the boat. Redfish are great at the jetties using live shrimp with a popping cork, or wade fishing. Speckled trout are slow with wade fishing producing the best bites. Some sand trout showing up in the east end of the bay. Flounder gigging at night is fantastic.

PORT ARANSAS: GOOD. 81 degrees. Redfish can be had at Allyn’s Bight on live shrimp, cut mullet, cut perch, or cut ladyfish. Flounder gigging is producing limits.

PORT O’CONNOR: GOOD. 80 degrees. Slot redfish are very good in the jetties on Spanish sardines and dead shrimp. Bull redfish are good at the back of jetties on dead shrimp and Spanish sardines. Oversized black drum are good on dead shrimp at the end of jetties. Slot drums are good where the jetties widen. Spade fish are biting on squid outside of the south jetty. No trout action. Sharks and tarpon continue to bite live bait.

ROCKPORT: GREAT. 86 degrees. Redfish are good in inlets and channels with jetty access drifting with artificial­s, especially gulp shrimp. As the sun gets high fish move into the flats. Cut bait in sand pockets has also been good. Trout are good early morning on flats near deep water access. Great bite on topwater plugs early switching to soft plastics mid morning or using live shrimp. Drum are good on outgoing tides near backwater inlets on dead shrimp.

WEST MATAGORDA BAY: FAIR. 81 degrees. Cold fronts will improve wade fishing, while slowing fishing from the boat. Redfish are great at the jetties using live shrimp with a popping cork, or wade fishing. Speckled trout are slow with wade fishing producing the best bites. Flounder gigging at night is fantastic.
