No. 12 K-state eases by No. 17 TCU

MANHATTAN, Kan. — Markquis Nowell scored 18 points as No. 12 Kansas State finished strong, snapping a twogame skid by beating No. 17 TCU 82-61 on Tuesday night.

The Wildcats outscored TCU 17-2 to end the game.

Kansas State (19-5, 7-4 Big 12), which lost to TCU earlier this season, moved within a game of first-place Texas in a crowded conference race. The Wildcats are tied with Kansas in third place, a half-game behind Iowa State.

Keyontae Johnson and Desi Sills each had 14 points for Kansas State, Tykei Greene added 13 and David N'guessan had 10.

TCU (17-7, 6-5) was led by Damion Baugh with 16 points. Micah Peavy and Jakobe Coles each had 11 and Emanuel Miller added 10.

TCU played without preseason Big 12 Player of the Year Mike Miles Jr., who missed his third straight game after hyperexten­ding his knee Jan. 28 against Mississipp­i.

Nowell, who spent his

first three seasons at Arkansas-little Rock, hit a short jumper in the first half to record his 1,700th career point. He also passed Steve Henson's single-season school record with his 187th assist of the year.

Johnson again struggled with foul trouble. He picked up two offensive fouls in the first 10 minutes after collecting two in the first minute-plus Saturday against Texas. He finished the half with 5 points but was limited to 10 minutes of action.

Holding a 2-point lead, Kansas State went on a 13-2 run early in the second half to open up a comfortabl­e lead. TCU closed to 65-59 with 4:49

left, but an alley-oop slam by Greene punctuated an 11-0 run to ice the game.

Jayden Gardner scored 18 points and Reece Beekman added 15 as the host Cavaliers cooled off the red-hot Wolfpack.

Virginia (18-4, 10-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) handed North Carolina State (19-6, 9-5) its second loss in 10 games and moved into a share of first in the ACC with Clemson and Pittsburgh.

Jordan Hawkins scored 20 points and Tristen Newton recorded his second triple-double of the season as the Huskies took down the visiting Golden Eagles.

Newton had 12 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds for Connecticu­t (19-6, 8-6 Big East), which won its third straight game after losing six of its previous eight.

NO. 18 INDIANA 66 NO. 24 RUTGERS 60

Trayce Jackson-davis scored 20 points and had 18 rebounds while reaching yet another major milestone in leading the host Hoosiers past the Scarlet Knights.

The forward became the sixth player in school history with 2,000 career points (2,004) and the first among them who also had 1,000 rebounds (1,035).

WOMEN NO. 16 OKLAHOMA 98 BAYLOR 92 (OT)

Ana Llanusa and Skylar Vann each scored 20 points as the Sooners took their first lead of the game in overtime before rallying past the host Bears.

OU trailed for 39 minutes in regulation and was down 75-63 with 5:19 left in the fourth quarter.
