Green to bolster young Cavaliers

- WIRE REPORTS

Danny Green was best known for his sideline dance routines during his first stint with the Cavaliers.

He has picked up some new moves since then.

Green rejoined Cleveland’s roster Wednesday after agreeing to a oneyear, $2 million contract with the Cavaliers, who believe the three-time NBA champion can help them in the postseason.

Green, who was drafted by Cleveland in 2009 and waived after one season, gives the team another proven outside shooter. More importantly, he’s a selfless teammate expected to blend in nicely with a young team looking to make its mark in the playoffs.

“Someone who is about the team and who just wants to fit in,” coach J.B. Bickerstaff said.

After tearing a knee ligament during last year’s playoffs while with the 76ers, the 35year-old Green played in just three games for Memphis this season before being traded last week to Houston. The Rockets bought out his contract, making him a free agent, and the Cavaliers lured him away over several other interested contenders.

Green has a reputation for being a big-game, big-shot maker.

With San Antonio in 2013, he set an NBA Finals record by making 23 3-pointers, a mark that didn’t sit well with Cavaliers All-star Donovan Mitchell, who was a teenage hope fan back then.

PG Jackson adds depth in Denver

The Western Conference-leading Denver Nuggets added depth to their backcourt by signing free agent guard Reggie Jackson on Tuesday night.

Jackson was recently waived by Charlotte after being acquired from the Los Angeles Clippers as part of a deal at the trade deadline last week.

The 32-year-old Jackson grew up down the road in Colorado Springs, where he became the Gatorade Colorado boys’ player of the year before going to Boston College.

Over 755 career games, he has averaged 12.9 points and 4.2 assists.

He figures to be one of the backups for star Jamal Murray, who’s currently dealing with inflammation in his right knee.

All-star Saturday lineups released

Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo is teaming up with his brothers once again on All-star Saturday.

Portland’s Damian Lillard is taking a third shot at the 3-point title and Philadelphia’s Mac Mcclung now can be a slam-dunk champion at the NBA and high school levels.

Indiana’s Buddy Hield, the 2020 3-point contest winner, will face Pacers teammate Tyrese Haliburton, the Portland duo of Lillard and Anfernee Simons, Miami’s Tyler Herro, Sacramento’s Kevin Huerter, Utah’s Lauri Markkanen and Boston’s Jayson Tatum.

In the Skills Challenge, the Antetokounmpos will face Jordan Clarkson, Walker Kessler and Collin Sexton, representing the Jazz, and Team Rooks, composed of Orlando’s Paolo Banchero, Houston’s Jabari Smith Jr. and Detroit’s Jaden Ivey.

Mcclung will be joined in the NBA dunk field by Houston’s KJ Martin, New Orleans’ Trey Murphy III and New York’s Jericho Sims.
