A man was killed early Thursday in a shooting with police, who said he pointed a gun at a Guadalupe County SWAT team during a standoff that followed a traffic stop in Seguin.

Alejandro Saucedo, 42, of Marion, was killed in the gunfire, according to Seguin police.

The incident began at 1:46 a.m., when an officer initiated a traffic stop on a white Suzuki SX4 along the North State Highway 123 Bypass and Mockingbird Lane, Seguin police said. Police did not say what prompted them to stop the compact crossover.

The driver, Saucedo, did not pull over immediately. Instead, he continued driving before stopping at South Milam and

East Live Oak about 2 miles away.

At that point, Seguin police ordered three people to get out of the vehicle. The two passengers complied, but Saucedo stayed in the driver’s seat.

The passengers told police that Saucedo had a gun.

Negotiators tried to convince him to get out, with no success.

At 3 a.m., Seguin police called for help from the Guadalupe County SWAT team. Negotiations continued until the SWAT team used gas to force the man out, but he remained in the driver’s seat.

At 4:43 a.m., Saucedo pointed a gun at SWAT team members, who then fired at him, police said.

Saucedo died at the scene, police said.

One of the passengers, Zoey Solis, 21, of Gonzales, was arrested and charged with manufacture or delivery of a substance, interfering with public duties and resisting arrest, police said.

The Seguin police criminal investigation division is investigating the incident alongside the Texas Rangers.
