Police arrest woman linked to man’s fatal overdose at motel
A San Antonio woman has been arrested in connection with a fatal overdose in which police concluded she moved the body of the man who died and lied to police to conceal her knowledge of him and other elements of the incident.
Chaz Elizabeth Gee, 40, was arrested on charges of tampering with evidence and making a false report to a police officer. She is being held on $10,000 bail.
On Feb. 9, Gee called 911 to report that she found a man unresponsive at the Studio 6 motel in the 11800 block of Interstate 10. Gee told a dispatcher she didn’t know the man, nor what had happened to him, saying she had found him that way on the ground outside a motel room, according to an affidavit supporting her arrest.
At the dispatcher’s direction, Gee attempted CPR on the man before medical personnel arrived and stepped in. The man was pronounced dead shortly after.
Investigators found evidence contradicting Gee’s statements to police.
In addition to finding a glass vial with a white powdery substance, police found a cellphone in the man’s pocket. On the cellphone, investigators observed several Cashapp transactions and a text thread between the man and Gee. And the cellphone showed the phone number used to call 911 labeled with Gee’s last name.
Meanwhile, investigators viewed video surveillance footage from that night. It showed Gee entering the motel room, which was registered in her name, and exiting soon after while dragging the man out of the room — before calling 911. Police said Gee did not tell the responding officers she had moved the man while he was unresponsive or that he had been in her room, the affidavit said.
