‘Frozen,’ ‘Six’ coming to Majestic Theatre
National tours of “Six” and “Frozen” will pay their first visits to the Alamo City during the 2023-24 Broadway in San Antonio season.
All but one of the shows in the Majestic Theatre series are San Antonio premieres.
Here’s a look at the whole lineup:
“Six”: The pop musical is structured as a sing-off between the wives of Henry VIII in which they share their stories. The New York Times described it as “a rollicking, reverberant blast from the past.” The Tonywinning score includes “Don’t Lose Ur Head,” “No Way” and “I Don’t Need Your Love.” Oct. 10-22.
“Annie”: The much-adored musical about a scrappy orphan whose quest to find her parents takes an unexpected turn, returns to the Majestic. The score includes “It’s the Hard Knock Life,” “Easy Street” and “Tomorrow.” Nov. 7-12.
“Tina: The Tina Turner Musical”: The jukebox show follows the music legend’s life from her hardscrabble childhood through her abusive marriage to Ike Turner and her late-career triumphs. The score includes “Proud Mary,” “Better Be Good to Me” and “We Don’t Need Another Hero.” Jan. 16-21,
2024.
“Beetlejuice”: The musical is adapted from Tim Burton’s 1988 movie, in which a recently deceased couple try to figure out the afterlife, which they are spending in the home they love. The situation becomes less than
idyllic when an insufferable couple buy the house; the dead folks then hire “bio-exorcist” Beetlejuice to evict them, a decision they swiftly regret. The score includes “Creepy Old Guy,” “Barbara 2.0” and “Day-o (The Banana Boat Song).” Feb.
13-18, 2024.
“Frozen”: The adaptation of the 2013 Disney insta-classic tells the story of a princess who must confront her estranged sister, who has inadvertently trapped their home in an eternal winter. The show features the songs from the movie, including “Let it Go,” as well as a dozen new numbers written for the stage. May 22-June 4, 2024.
“Clue”: The comedy is adapted from the 1985 cult classic film based on the board game. In the show, strangers invited to a dinner party become amateur crime solvers after their host is murdered. June 25-30, 2024.
All of those shows are included in season subscriptions. Subscribers can also add two additional productions: “Wicked” returns Dec. 20-Jan. 7, 2024, and “The Book of Mormon” returns April 5-7.
Galapro, a closed-captioning app, will be in use for “Six,” “Tina,” “Beetlejuice,” “Frozen” and “Wicked.” Those with sensory issues can take advantage of fidget tools, noisecanceling headphones and other tools made available through the theater’s work with the accessibility non-profit Kulturecity.
Subscriptions are on sale now. Current season subscribers who don’t opt out will be automatically renewed March 15.
Individual tickets go on sale later.
