Man is ID’D in suspected double murder-suicide
A man who San Antonio police suspect killed his wife and daughter before fatally shooting himself in a North Side apartment has been identified.
Jeremy Casanova Martinez, 43, was found dead Monday morning in his apartment at the Winding Creek Apartments, 13121 NW Military Highway, according to the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Medical examiner investigators have yet to officially identify the woman and girl who were also found dead in the apartment, although police described them at the time as Martinez’s wife and daughter, with the woman being in her late 30s and the girl being under 10.
A marriage record for Martinez identifies his wife as Shannon Martinez, 37, and shows that they were married in June 2015.
Meanwhile, the medical examiner said the deceased girl is 7 years old, which is consistent with the couple’s daughter shown on Shannon Martinez’s Facebook page.
Her profile includes family photos of the trio in what appear to be better times, but her relationship status is listed as separated.
A relative’s profile photo was recently changed to display Shannon Martinez and her daughter.
The cause and manner of Jeremy Martinez’s death were not listed as the medical examiner’s investigation continues.
San Antonio police said they discovered the three bodies in the apartment when they went there to check on their wellbeing after a relative of Shannon Martinez said they had not spoken with her since Saturday morning.
Officers had to force their way into the apartment, a report states.
All three bodies had gunshot wounds. Police have not provided a motive for the slayings.
Chief William Mcmanus said in a since-deleted tweet that it was “heartbreaking” to talk with the family of the deceased. He said divorce and breakups often have dangerous and deadly outcomes, and he urged people to report domestic violence.
