In GOP primary, Moody for Pct. 3 commissioner
Political newcomer and trucking company owner Christopher “Chris” Schuchardt garnered 20% of the votes in May's mayoral race, finishing a distant second. Now, he is challenging Precinct 3 Commissioner Moody.
It will be a tall order. Moody has held this seat since winning a special election in November 2022 to fill Trish Deberry's unexpired term. Deberry gave up her seat in an unsuccessful bid to serve as Bexar County judge.
We recommended Moody in 2022, and we again recommend him in the Republican primary. He served 10 years as an active-duty Marine fighter pilot, with combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.
A Naval Academy graduate, he earned a master's degree in statistics and business analytics from Texas A&M University, and he has an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School. He worked as a legislative assistant for Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and served two terms on the Texas Veterans Land Board. Locally, he has held leadership positions at USAA and Valero Energy.
He's been an effective representative
of the North Side and an effective conservative voice in an environment that Democrats dominate.
Moody was busy in his first year as a county commissioner, advocating for reduced property taxes, working to set a modest hospital district homestead exemption and prioritizing public safety by leading the effort to secure funding for 62 new deputy sheriffs and 21 new constables.
While we don't agree with some of his views on state politics, which he shares on X, we appreciate his diplomatic, collegial style of governance. He has served Precinct 3 well, and he has given voice to conservative concerns on local issues. Moody has demonstrated an ability to work with others, grasped local issues and the complexities of Commissioners Court, and been a consistent advocate for reduced taxes.
Republican voters should look at Moody's body of work over this past year, just as they should consider the foundation he has set in what could be a promising and long political career.
