John Gordon Benge Jr.

John Gordon Benge Jr, 81 of Schertz TX, passed away on March 1st 2024 at North East Baptist Hospital, in the company of Family, Friends and loved ones. John was born October 3rd 1942 in Galveston TX. and the only child to John Gordon Benge Sr. and Lilian Lee (Noland) Benge. He married His life partner Yvonne Marie Clark on December 21st 1963, and remained married for 57 years. John was a loving Husband, Father, Uncle, Grandfathe­r and Great-grandfathe­r. John was the patriarch of the family, he was the rock to their foundation, standing strong and never faltering. He was an avid hunter and brought home many a deer. He also liked to fish whenever the opportunit­y became available. John Loved the Lord, was committed to his kingdom, and a longstandi­ng member of First Baptist Church in Schertz TX. He was a mentor to many, loved by all those who got to know him. It was not your time to go, as so many of our young family members needed to know your wisdom, greatness, love and compassion, but the Lord called you home for a reason. You are forever in our hearts.

John was also a decorated SMSGT of the United States Airforce (retired). He enlisted in July 1961 and separated in September 1983 after 22 years of faithful service to the United States of America and our Flag. Among his many accomplish­ments during his service, he achieved a Marksman Ribbon, NCO Profession­al Military Education Ribbon, AF Longevity Service Ribbon with Four Oak Leaf Clusters, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service medal with Four Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Champion Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm and AF Good Conduct Medal with 6 Oak Leaf Clusters. Johns last assignment was the 43FMS (SAC) at Randolph AFB TX. near Schertz TX. where he resided until his passing.

John is preceded in death by his parents John Gordon Benge Sr and Lilian Lee (Noland) Benge, Wife Yvonne Marie (Clark) Benge, Son John Christophe­r Benge and Great-grandson Jason Ray Clements. He is survived by his son Darrell J. Benge and wife Sandra of Waller Tx, Daughter Dana M. Roomsburg and husband Eric of Schertz Tx, Daughter In-law Martha Mahorn and Son In-law James Lindwedel, Grandchild­ren; Patricia, Christina, Mason, Jacob and Austin Benge, Shannon and Kyle Gaertner, Kayla and Junior Clements, and Brittani Lindwedel. and his great-grandchild­ren Lenore and Ramsey Gaertner, Scarlet Clements, Asher Scares Hawk, Karsyn Benge, Dante and Leon Clements, and countless extended family members.

A visitation will be held at 5:00PM and Funeral Services held at 6:00PM on Wednesday March 13, 2024 at Schertz Funeral Home Chapel. Internment will take place at 9:30 on Thursday March 14, 2024 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery – Meeting at Schertz Funeral Home at 8:30 to leave in procession to Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
