Motorcycli­st flees DUI checkpoint

A motorcycli­st led sheriff ’s deputies on a short pursuit after he fled a sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint in San Marcos on Friday night, officials said.

The rider of the small bike allegedly ran several red lights, and the pursuit was discontinu­ed. The rider was not located.

The checkpoint was conducted on West Mission Road at Twin Oaks Valley Road, sheriff ’s officials said.

While there were no alcohol or drug arrests, 16 citations issued were on charges of being an unlicensed driver, driving on a suspended license, speeding, failing to stop at a stop sign and a registered owner allowing an unlicensed driver to drive.

Of the 248 cars passing the checkpoint, 23 were sent to secondary evaluation and one motorist was evaluated for driving under the influence, officials said.

Three vehicles were impounded.
