Getting rid of bad cops should be a priority

-

Re “Public trust” (July 9): The San Diego police officers union does far more harm than good. It protects rotten officers. There is no citizens union.

The district attorney and retired police officer in these op-eds both explained the “Brady List” and how police

officers who lie under oath and cheat and disobey laws are put on the list. The district attorney, in contrast to her op-ed, has historically refused to even provide the number of officers on the list, let alone the list. The District Attorney’s Office reviews the list to add and subtract names. Why any lying, cheating police officer is not summarily fired is apparently not even a reasonable question for them. The officers are allowed to continue to work as if they are honest.

As with any criminal, it is reasonable to assume they have violated the law many times for each time they are caught. In San Diego, they are allowed to continue to prey on us. Disgusting. Hal Valderhaug La Mesa
