- LIZ WESTON Money Talk

If you work for — or know of — a company in the San Diego area that’s a great place to work, you have a little bit more time to see that they’re recognized.

The San Diego Uniontribune has extended the deadline for Top Workplaces 2020 to Aug. 7. Any business with 50 or more employees is eligible and there is no charge to participate.

In its eighth year, the Union-tribune’s Top Workplaces is designed to highlight great places to work in San Diego County and offer free input to business owners about what their employees think.

You do not have to work at a given company to make a nomination. Once a business owner accepts the nomination,

The survey is conducted by Energage, a firm based in suburban Philadelphia that acts as a research partner for the Uniontribune on the project.

The results are compiled and the best performers will be recognized in a special section published Nov. 15 by the Union-tribune.

Nominees are broken down by size: Large companies of 500 or more employees, midsize firms of between 150 and 499 employees and small businesses that employ between 50 and 149 workers. In addition to private companies, organizations in the public, nonprofit and government sectors may participate.

Last year, 126 companies in the San Diego area took part in the program and more than 17,000 employees filled out surveys.

With the COVID-19 outbreak having such a profound effect on the working conditions of so many companies, this year’s Top Workplaces program takes on a new dimension, said Energage spokesman Bob Helbig.

“I think everybody wants some good news and Top Workplaces is kind of a seal of approval in terms of knowing that you’re doing well in the eyes of your employees,” Helbig said.
