The Broken Yolk Cafe is going alfresco. Fourteen of the cafe’s San Diego locations are open with patio dining. The Broken Yolk, which was established in 1979, serves breakfast, brunch and lunch and is known for Benedicts and omelets as well as Mexican favorites and the classics, such as scrambled eggs, bacon and hash browns. Sandwiches, wraps, burgers along with soups and salads make up the lunch menu.

The Broken Yolk also has carryout and delivery options. To-go family packs, which range from 24.95 to $39.95, can feed four to five people and are available in three options: a brunch box that comes with a bottle of sparkling wine; an American breakfast combination; and a box of Mexican specialties.

The chain of restaurants started with one location in Pacific Beach and has now expanded to multiple states, including Florida, Nevada and Texas. A 2009 feature on The Travel Channel’s “Man vs Food” exposed the restaurant to a wide audience, helping to start the Broken Yolk’s expansion.

Broken Yolk has implemented strict safety measures, following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines. The Broken Yolk’s protocols include having servers wear masks and gloves to bring food to the table, sanitizing and disinfecting tables between seatings and using disposable menus or sanitizing the regular menus, as well as pens, after a single use.
