DRIVER DIES AFTER GOING OFF SIDE OF ROAD

A motorist was killed in a crash in the Deer Springs area of North County Saturday, Cal Fire said.

The crash occurred on the Old Highway 395 offramp at Interstate 15 north, officials said.

The crash happened at 4:36 p.m. when a vehicle went over the side of the road, according to Thomas Shoots of Cal Fire.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

San Marcos stabbing sends three to hospital

Three people were wounded in a stabbing Friday night in San Marcos, according to sheriff ’s officials.

It happened around 9:10 p.m. on Autumn Drive near Pico Avenue, according to sheriff’s Lt. Glen Twyman. Few details of the incident were released.

Medics took three people to hospitals in ambulances. The severity of their injuries was not known.

More than 300 pounds of drugs found in truck

More than 300 pounds of methamphetamine and fentanyl were found stashed in the sleeper cab of a tractortrailer truck Thursday as it tried to cross from Mexico into San Diego, authorities said.

The truck arrived at the Otay Mesa Port of Entry about 7 a.m. with a shipment of recycled cardboard, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The truck was inspected after a scan showed anomalies in the cab.

Officers found two black duffel bags, stuffed with 64 cellophane-wrapped bundles.

The packages contained 286 pounds of meth and 26 pounds of fentanyl, according to CBP.

The driver, a 36-year-old Mexican man with a valid border-crossing card, was arrested.

“Even in the midst of a global pandemic, we continue to see attempts to move hard narcotics across the border and into U.S. communities,” said Pete Flores, director of field operations for CBP in San Diego.

The U.s.-mexico border remains closed to non-essential traffic due to the coronavirus, although the travel limits do not apply to commercial trade.
