SOLANA BEACH — Diane Diliberto, 79, of Solana Beach, California passed away in Salem, Oregon on June 19, 2020 with her son and sister by her side.

“Di” (as she was known to her friends) was born February 21, 1941 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. She graduated high school in Bend, Oregon and then served two years as a Spanish interpreter in the US Army. She then excelled in management for Stuart Andersons Black Angus restaurants for nearly 30 years.

Diane was married to the late Bill Young in 1964, and then again in 1990 to the late Frank Diliberto where they lived together in Solana Beach for almost twenty years. In 2008, she moved to Salem, Oregon to be closer to family where she resided until her passing, but it was the beaches of the San Diego area where Diane’s heart truly resided.

Besides her love for the beach, Diane absolutely loved animals. Most of all, her beloved little Shi Tzu “Kookie” who was always by her side and who passed away just months before she did. Diane also loved opening her home to entertain both family and friends, especially around the holidays and big sporting events where she would often make her famous biscuits and gravy and her “better thansex”cake. Overall, Diane had a bigger than life personality who loved to laugh, loved music (especially Neil Diamond and Bruce Springsteen), and who was immensely generous. She was an incredibly proud mother who possessed the toughest exterior but the softest interior. In short, she was as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside.

Diane is survived by her sons, Bill Young and Craig Sherman; her sisters, Brenda Barber and Joanne Risch; her aunt, Judy Brunk, and other special family and friends. Diane was preceded in death by her beloved husbands, Bill and Frank, and baby daughter, Susie.

A private ceremony will be held Saturday September 19, 2020 in San Diego. In lieu of flowers her family requests that people make donations to the Humane society in her name.
