MOTORCYCLIST KILLED IN FREEWAY CRASH
A motorcyclist was killed Saturday after crashing on northbound state Route 163 in Mission Valley, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash was reported about 1 p.m. near the Interstate 8 transition. Witnesses reported seeing the motorcyclist swerve off the freeway and slam into what was described as a pole or sign, according to CHP.
The victim was not identified.

Pedestrian hit, killed by train in Old Town
A pedestrian was struck and killed by a BNSF freight train at the Old Town Transit
Station in San Diego Friday night, sheriff’s officials said.
The incident was reported about 9:25 p.m. By the time authorities arrived on the scene, the person had died, according to Deputy Brian Abraham.
No details about the victim’s name, gender or age were released.

Cats, snake die in mobile home fire
Two cats and a pet snake were killed Friday night when flames gutted a Lakeside mobile home, authorities said.
It happened around 8 p.m. at a dwelling in the Mira Vista Mobile Home Estates on Single Oak Drive, according to the authorities.
The resident of the mobile home was not there when the fire erupted, Lakeside Fire Protection Division Chief Beto Lawler told Onscene TV.
Firefighters quickly knocked down the f lames after checking if anyone was inside.
The residence sustained “extensive damage throughout” and was possibly a total loss, according to Lawler.
No firefighters or residents were injured in the blaze, but Lawler said two cats and a pet snake died in the fire. The resident told Onscene TV the snake was a 10-foot ball python.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
