SOME EAST COUNTY VOTERS TO RECEIVE SUPPLEMENTAL BALLOTS
Voters in the East County communities of Dehesa, Harbison Canyon and Granite Hills soon will receive supplemental election materials because they were not included in a ballot for a planning group race in their area.
The registrar of voters reportedly was misinformed about which residents are eligible to vote for the Crest member to the Crest/dehesa/harbison Canyon/ Grant Hills Community Planning Area Planning Group contest, the county said Saturday.
As a result, the local contest was not included in the sample ballot and voter information pamphlets, or in the vote-by-mail ballots set to start arriving in mailboxes Monday.
The Crest, Dehesa, Granite Hills, Harbison Canyon Subregion is located in a 33square-mile area between El Cajon and Alpine. Voters in all four communities should have the option to vote on this contest, but only Crest residents currently have the contest on their ballot.
The registrar is printing supplemental sample ballot booklets and vote-by-mail packets that will contain only the Community Planning Area contest. The material is expected to be mailed to the voters in the Dehesa, Harbison Canyon and Granite Hills communities on Oct. 9.
All 4,934 voters in the three communities are affected, and they will get a packet with a note explaining why they are getting the supplemental election materials.
People planning to vote at their assigned polling places will receive a regular ballot and the supplemental one just for the planning group race. Both should be returned in the provided envelopes.
