Stanley Lee Hay

SAN DIEGO — On December 1, 2020, Stanley Hay, 88, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family. Born April 3, 1932 in Cananea, Sonora, Mexico he was the second child of Harold and Thelma Hay. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Evelyn Rowdean Hay, their four daughters (and their spouses), 10 grandchild­ren, 15 great-grandchild­ren, and two great-greatgrand­children. He was very proud of the five generation­s of his family. He is also survived by one of his three brothers, Glenn Hay.

He completed his elementary and secondary education in Mexico, then moved to Bisbee, Arizona for High School. At 17, he enlisted in the Army, where he finished his high school education, and served in the Korean War. While in the army he met the love of his life, Evelyn. They married August 27, 1954.

Early in his career he was an aircraft mechanic. He then went on to serve 15 years with the San Diego Sheriff ’s Department. After a medical retirement from the Sheriff’s Department he attended San Diego Bible College where he received his associate’s and bachelor’s degrees and joined the staff as Administra­tive Dean. He served in this position until 1980 and was active in writing courses, as well as developing the Master and Doctor of Theology programs offered there. Stan earned his Master of Theology degree from San Diego Bible College, Doctorate of Theology from Pacific Western University, and Doctorate of Philosophy from St. John’s University. In 1989, he was ordained and became Pastor of Hillview Baptist Church. He continued on this path to spread the word of God and was instrument­al in establishi­ng the Golden State School of Theology. Among his many profession­s he enlisted his experience with the Sheriff’s department to work as a guard for the Del Mar Racetrack and Fairground­s.

In his downtime, Stan enjoyed travel. He and his family took many cross country trips and cruises. He enjoyed visiting family as well as friends who had become family. Stanley was a wonderful man of God. He had a great sense of humor and a heart open to all. He is well loved and missed by his family and friends. An outdoor service will be held on December 14th at Greenwood Mortuary.
