Due to ongoing safety concerns about COVID-19, the three new members of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors will take the oath of office Monday in three separate virtual ceremonies, county officials announced.

Cox Communications will air the three, 20-minute ceremonies on Channels 24 or 19, and Spectrum will show the ceremonies on Channels 24 or 85. The public can also watch live at sandiegocounty.gov, facebook.com/ sandiegocounty or on CNC-TV.

Southwestern College board member Nora Vargas will take the oath of office from 10 a.m. to 10:20 a.m. Monday. She won the District 1 seat with 57 percent of the votes and will replace Supervisor Greg Cox, who held the position for 25 years. Cox is stepping down because of term limits.

From 10:20 a.m. to 10:40 a.m., Supervisorelect Joel Anderson will be sworn in to represent District 2 on the fivemember board. Anderson narrowly won the seat with 50.05 percent of the votes. He will replace Supervisor Dianne Jacob, who has held the seat since 1993, making her the longest-running county supervisor.

Supervisor-elect Terra Lawson-remer will take the oath from 10:40 a.m. to 11 a.m. She won the District 3 seat with 58 percent of the votes against incumbent Supervisor Kristin Gaspar.

The new Board of Supervisors will hold its first regular meeting at 9 a.m. Tuesday. The board, which will have a Democratic majority, is expected to pick a new chair, vice chair and chair pro tem and make decisions about committees, commissions and board appointees.
