Honey Mark

EL CAJON, CA — Honey Mark, devoted mother, grandmothe­r, great-grandmothe­r, teacher, singer, actress, clown, and friend to many, died peacefully on December 28, 2020, surrounded by her family. Honey was a warm, loving person who always sought to bring joy and a smile to others.

Honey was born in Denver, Colorado, on June 23, 1936, the youngest of six children. At East High School, she discovered her love of acting. After graduating in 1954, she was introduced to Melvyn by a mutual friend, and they married on November 10, 1957. They both became certified scuba divers and enjoyed traveling in the United States and abroad. They raised two daughters and hosted several foreign exchange students who remain in contact and still revisit the Marks.

While raising her children, Honey obtained her B.A. and K-12 teaching credential at SDSU. She taught as a substitute teacher for many years. She loved ice skating, performing in local theater groups, and singing with the Patrick

Henry Choraleers. In the early 1980s, Honey began studying clowning. She joined the San Diego All-star Clown group and regularly performed as a clown in local parades, fairs, and during National Clown Week. She also volunteere­d at Grossmont Hospital and many charity events and entertaine­d at parties. Over the years, she received several awards for her clowning.

Honey was renowned for hosting summertime pool parties where she brought people together to enjoy food and good company. She also enjoyed observing the Jewish Holidays and attending services at Ohr Shalom Synagogue.

When Honey was diagnosed with “Probable” Alzheimer’s, she enrolled in a long-term study through the Shileymarc­os Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center. She participat­ed in this research until her passing.

Honey is survived by her husband Melvyn, daughters Melanie Mark and Valarie Mark Kalb (Dan), grandson Keone Alferos (Ronda), and great-grandchild­ren Noah and Adeline Alferos.
