Drive-thru recycling event set for Jan. 16
The Knights of Columbus at St. Elizabeth Seton Church will hold a drive-thru recycling event Jan. 16 in the church’s lower parking lot, 6628 Santa Isabel St. Bring recyclable CA redemption cans and bottles and toss them in the bin from your car. Helpers will be on hand for larger loads. The event benefits programs for the area’s homeless. All social distancing will be respected; wear a mask. Library offers curbside service, book clubs
Carlsbad libraries offer curbside service Mondays through Saturdays and computer and account service Mondays and Wednesday at the Georgina Cole Library and Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Dove Library and Learning Center. Art association seeks scholarship applicants
The Escondido Art Association offers its 2020-2021 Art Scholarship Program for graduating seniors enrolled in an Escondidobased high school. A total of $1,000 will be awarded: $500 for first place, $250 for second place, $150 for third place, and two $50 honorable mention awards. To compete, students must fill out an application form; obtain a letter of recommendation from their scholarship coordinator/art teacher; write an essay about their interest in art; and submit three pieces of artwork (at least one original). Completed packages must be submitted from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 27 or 4 to 6 p.m. on the deadline dropoff date of March 1 at the Artists Gallery, 121 W. Grand Ave. Visit escondidoartassociation.com.
Curbside pickup offered at library
The Escondido Public Library offers curbside pickup and reference services via phone, email and text from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays to Saturdays. No overdue fees will be charged while the library is closed. All items can be returned in the outdoor book drops in the library parking lot, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Library hosts virtual concert, book talk

Friends of Library marks 50 years
The nonprofit Friends of the Oceanside Public Library marks its 50th anniversary this year. As part of its celebration and fundraising efforts, the group offers new membership opportunities for Oceanside businesses. For 2021 only, local businesses can become annual members for $50, a new level that will be called the 50/50 Club, which can be renewed in future years. Additional memberships range from Business Bronze for $100 to Business Platinum, $1,000 and above. New Business Friends of the Oceanside Public Library will have their businesses listed in the See Gull Newsletter, library handouts, and website and social media postings. New members also receive a certificate, and a sticker or window cling for posting at their place of business. Club continues free lunch, snack program
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Oceanside is continuing to offer its free, curbside Emergency Food Program over the holiday break. Lunch and snacks are available for youths under age 18, and they do not need to be club members. Applications are being accepted for the Oceanside City Council District 1 seat. Applicants must be District 1 residents older than 18 and registered to vote.
